Gentle Baby & Toddler Sleep Training with a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant
During the first few months of life, babies are not capable of following a strict clock-based schedule. Their circadian rhythm (internal body clock) is still developing, so sleep and feeding times can vary significantly from day to day.
At this age, think less about following an exact schedule and more about creating a predictable rhythm. A simple EAT, PLAY, SLEEP routine can help provide structure to your day, meet your baby's needs, and prevent overtiredness. It can also help you feel a little more organized during a season that often feels anything but predictable.
As your baby grows and their circadian rhythm matures, this loose routine will naturally begin evolving into a more predictable schedule.
The schedules below are intended as general guidelines. Every baby is different and may need adjustments based on temperament, feeding needs, sleep needs, and developmental stage.
0-8 Weeks: 45 minutes to 1 hour
8-12 Weeks: 1 to 1.5 hours
3-4 Months: 1.25 to 2 hours
Wake
Feed
Diaper Change
Play / Interaction
Nap
Repeat throughout the day based on your baby's cues and feeding needs.
